*For King Size adjustable beds you will be sent two Twin Extra long Sets. When these two are placed side by side you have a King size bed. All King mattresses are set up in this way. With a traditional innerspring mattress you would have one mattress and two separate box springs. However with an adjustable hospital bed you must have two separate mattresses due to the function ability of the adjustable base.
In the Twin as well as the Full size application typically an extra long will be used for all adjustable beds. Adjustable beds are most often used for adults, thus why an extra long is needed. When going into a bedding store most people that are looking for a twin or full size mattress set are purchasing a bed for a child. A standard twin or standard full size bed is 75 inches in length. By purchasing an extra long you are gaining 5 inches in length.
Explanation of Mattress Sizing:
Twin beds are commonly called single beds. They’re most often a frequent choice for a child’s room or for a guest bedroom in a home. Due to the dimensions of the twin bed it will easily fit in a small bedroom with limited space. Twin beds are often used for kid’s beds, bunk beds, trundle beds, daybeds, and some college dorm rooms. Twin beds and daybeds typically have the capability of accepting a trundle unit, which fits right under the frame of the bed. Trundle beds can simply be pulled out from under the bed ready for sleeping. Twin size mattresses are 39" wide by 75" in length.
Twin Extra–long beds are most commonly found in college dorm rooms. They are the same width as a twin size bed with 5" in added length. This allows for a taller teen or adult to still sleep comfortably on a twin size bed. With this accommodation it's ideal for a college dorm room because the mattress is still able to fit in a small or narrow room. Twin Extra–long mattresses are very commonly used in an adjustable hospital bed. Most adjustable beds come in this size due to the fact that adjustable beds are typically used for adults. The extra length adds to the comfort for an adult. A Twin Extra–long mattress is 39"wide by 80" in length.
Full size beds which are also known as double beds were commonly used to sleep two people. They are a bit wider than a twin size mattress with the same length. Full size beds are now commonly used in guest bedrooms or for children's beds. A full size mattress is 54" wide by 75" in length.
Full Extra–long beds are commonly used in an adjustable bed configuration. Just like the twin extra long adults fit more comfortably on an extra–long mattress because of height. A full extra–long adjustable bed is 54" wide by 80" in length.
Queen beds are wider as well as longer than both a twin size bed and a full size bed. Queen size beds work well in guest bedrooms if space allows as well as for small master bedrooms. Adjustable beds also come in queen size the dimensions of an adjustable bed are the same as that of a standard mattress and box spring set. This size is a good choice for couples who like to be within reach of each other while also having their own space. A Queen Size mattress is 60" wide by 80" in length.
King size beds are often called standard king or eastern king beds. They are
the same length as a queen size mattress with added width.
A king size bed is sold as one mattress and two box springs.
The reason for this is for moving purposes, a king box spring
would not fit through a door and would be an odd size to move
around in a room. Box springs do not have the ability to bed
which makes it impossible to fit through a door. The mattress
however has hinges that allow for it to be bent without damaging
the construction of the mattress. With the king box being
split into two boxes much like a twin size box spring the
ability to move with ease is achieved. For adjustable hospital
beds two twin extra–long sets would be set up in your
home. When these two beds are pushed together they make a
king size adjustable bed. King adjustable beds come this way
because of the adjustable base configuration, if the base
was left as a full piece it would not fit through doorway.
Another area of concern is the weight of the base. A king
size bed is 76" wide by 80" in length.
California king beds are also a popular choice. These beds are often referred to as western king beds. This bed is the longest bed in the mattress industry and is most commonly chosen by taller people. Taller people can sleep with ease on this size mattress without worrying about their feet hanging off the end. Again just like the King set this mattress set would also come with two box springs for easy mobility. A California King mattress is 72" wide by 84" in length.
